Effective software inventory / Server license metrics

The evaluation of the effective license requirements (how many licenses are needed to cover usage) is no longer done in the compliance check itself, but through pre-processing. Based on the license metric of the product, an appropriate Metric Engine is selected to determine the effective usage (usage per cost center) by analyzing the software inventory (the number of installations of a product or user accounts). Through this enhancement the system can map out complex license metrics from the likes of IBM PVU or Oracle database, where hardware parameters and virtualization need to be taken into account, better. Currently two Metric Engines are available: generic and IBM PVU. A cron job updates the effective usage information on a regular basis. If the software inventory changes, the adjustments show in the compliance check after manual or automated update.
