Gartner SAM Magic Quadrant: 5 Insights from Aspera
We believe that the Software Asset Management business case is strongly positioned by the Gartner Magic Quadrant for SAM Tools 2019. According to Gartner, “Software asset management tools are essential for the management of increasingly complex software-licensing metrics."
We’re proud to say that for the second year in a row, Aspera has been recognized in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Software Asset Management Tools.
Our customer-first outlook for enterprise level Software Asset Management creates flexible, customizable products that deliver customer success. As we take a closer look at the Gartner Magic Quadrant for SAM Tools, we’d like to share our own 5 insights for selecting a software license management tool.
1. Dig deeper: what we think our recognition in the Gartner Magic Quadrant really means
While we believe that the Gartner Magic Quadrant is wonderful at quick glance, it’s our view that people who take Software Asset Management seriously understand that the Magic Quadrant’s full significance is in the Gartner Software Asset Management analysis. It’s our view that this analysis doesn’t necessarily reveal who the best SAM provider is, but rather can help you decide which SAM provider is best suited to meet your company’s individual Software Asset Management needs.
At Aspera, we pride ourselves for dealing with enterprise and complex software estates. Our software license management solutions offer the best data quality and compliance you can trust, partnered with experienced license management services to back them up.
SAM is all we do, and our focus is on delivering long-term customer success and proven cost-saving results. We believe that this is why Aspera was also recognized by customers in the upper-right “Customers’ Choice Zone” quadrant in the Gartner Peer Insights “Voice of the Customer”: SAM Tools report.*
2. Niche means each customer counts
For the second year in a row, Aspera has been positioned in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Software Asset Management Tools. In this Magic Quadrant, we were named a Niche Player. And in many ways, we are niche.
As pioneers in the Software Asset Management industry, we build specialized software license management tools and provide license management services for global enterprises. Over 50 of the world's largest Fortune 500 companies trust us to resolve their unique and often complex software license management challenges.
It might be easier and quicker to deliver our tool to as many businesses as possible, but a big part of our Software Asset Management success over the last 20 years is delivering a SAM tool and implementing it with our customers to ensure ongoing success. We treat each customer relationship as a partnership, and in this industry, that outlook is niche unto itself.
This sort of customer service takes time, we’re digging deep into your complex Software Asset Management challenges, offering a solution built to support your goals: cloud cost management, hybrid environments, SAP license optimization, Oracle license optimization, to name a few.
We’re not for everyone. We're not trying to be all things to everyone. Rather than thinly spreading out our resources to superficially cover as many vendors as we can, we’re focusing on the essential issues that matter to you.
3. There are no shortcuts to software asset management innovation
Some SAM providers might recognize a market need and acquire a competitor to respond to it. Then they’ll have the tool but lack the product integration to deliver customer success across different vendors or IT environments – something enterprise-level SAM demands.
We don't take short cuts to software asset management innovation. We’re working with customers with complex IT estates, so our tools integrate because we develop our tools internally, often with direct customer feedback.
It isn't as flashy as an acquisition. And, it also takes time. Our priority is with our customers, helping you achieve your software license management goals.
4. Software license management tools are only one piece in the SAM puzzle
Like any company, Aspera seeks growth, but we’re not seeking growth for the sake of it. We've understood for almost 20 years that customer success is our success, so we don’t sell a tool – we also share our expertise. That's why we have the SAM industry’s largest consulting practice.
For successful Software Asset Management, you can’t install a tool and flip a switch. That’s why we’re extremely proud to offer the only 100% in-house Managed Services team. Our software license management team looks at the vendors you want to manage and the tools you own and finds the perfect match of services within our extensive portfolio and designs a solution around you.
Because one size does not fit all.
5. SAM isn’t about treating everyone the same
In the end, this is a business built on relationships, not only software. We’ve been around since 2001 because we’ve worked hard with our customers to solve your software asset management problems. We also continually seek out customer feedback to improve our tools.
We believe that the SAM industry is turning into a crowded landscape. And some of our competitors may stand out based on their size or market perception.
We prefer to stand with our customers, as trusted partners. It might be niche, but it works.
